Opportunities for Adjuncts

The University of Connecticut Tri-Campus, comprised of three regional campuses in Greater Hartford, Torrington, and Waterbury, is seeking to increase its cadre of adjunct instructors.  UConn's Tri-Campus serves commuter students and offers a full complement of general education courses in addition to bachelor degree programs in Business & Technology, Urban & Community Studies, Family Studies, and Psychology.  A program in American Studies will soon be available as well.

Stipend for adjunct faculty, $1313 per credit hour

Academic areas where part-time instructors are needed and the specific qualifications required:

  1. Anthropology - PhD in Anthropology and teaching experience preferred. We are looking for individuals who can teach introductory courses in particular Anthropology 100: Other People's Worlds
  2. Accounting, Information Technology and Organizational Management Courses for our BS Business Technology undergraduate degree and/or MBA graduate program: MBA/Masters degrees, MSA ( Masters in Accounting) or PhD from AACSB accredited programs
  3. Biology Lab Instructor: ( 100's level courses)

    1. B.S. degree in biology, with broad exposure to organismal biology, higher degree preferred
    2. Experience in lab sciences, experience in lab science instruction preferred
    3. Good communication skills, ability to work effectively with undergraduate students
    4. Flexible and independent
  4. Chemistry Lab Instructor - General Chemistry lab instructors:

    Bachelors in Chemistry required, Masters degree preferred. Preference given to candidates with experience in teaching laboratory at any level

  5. Communication Science -100: Process of Communication: MA in communication, PHD preferred.
  6. Economics - Introductory courses in Microeconomics and Macroeconomics: M.A in Economics with some experience teaching at the college level.
  7. English – Intro Academic Writing courses: M.A. with some experience in teaching at the college level. PhD and/or experience with teaching academic writing preferred.
  8. Geography - Geography 274 Urban and Regional Planning: Planning experience and advanced degree(s) in urban planning or geography required. Higher education teaching experience preferred
  9. Human Development and Family Studies - PhD in Human Development and Family Studies or a closely related field. A Masters would be considered with significant teaching experience in the areas needed. We are looking for individuals who could teach areas such as:

    1. Research in human development
    2. Child growth and development
    3. Professional communication in human development and family studies
    4. Family policy
    5. Family interactions
    6. Men and Masculinity
  10. Mathematics -Introductory 100's level mathematics courses: ( non-calculus): Sufficient mathematical training to teach the course ( must have taken a cluster of courses in math containing such a course). Looking for broad mathematical experience

    Calculus courses: Sufficient mathematical training which includes advance calculus. Looking for broad mathematical experience
  11. Psychology -   PhD in Psychology.  A Masters in Psychology would be considered with significant teaching experience in the areas needed.  All applicants should show evidence of current or recent involvement in research.  We are looking for individuals who could teach areas such as:

    1. General Psychology I
    2. General Psychology II
    3. Developmental Psychology and/or Theories in Developmental Psychology
    4. The Study of Personality
    5. Psychology of Women
    6. Environmental Psychology
    7. Health Psychology
    8. Industrial/Organizational Psychology
    9. Learning
    10. Sensation and Perception
  12. Sociology - 100's level introductory courses ( Introduction to Sociology, Social Problems, Race Class and Gender): MA Sociology, PhD preferred with either training or experience teaching independently
  13. Statistics - Introduction to Statistics and Elementary Concepts of Statistics: M.S. in Statistics or related field with at least two years of experience in teaching statistics at the undergraduate level
  14. Urban Studies - Exploring Your Community; Urban Studies 140W: PhD in social sciences preferred. Knowledge of community studies theory and practice. Knowledge of and interest in multicultural/diversity issues, experience with and interest in service learning
