Field Experience (Undergraduate Internships)

Psychology majors are encouraged to engage in field experience (i.e.,”internships”), by enrolling in Psyc 294, Field Experience. Hands-on experience in community settings while having academic mentoring by faculty is an excellent way for students to engage in the community, build a resume, and to understand how concepts in psychology are applied in working situations. Greater Hartford , Waterbury , and surrounding communities provide ample opportunity for the Tri-Campus psychology major field experiences.

Students are encouraged, usually in the Junior or Senior year, to obtain placements in organizations or businesses that relate to individual academic or career interests. Faculty and staff can also help students find placements in locations where other Uconn students have already had internships. Generally, internships are 3-6 credits and require you to be on location for approximately 3 hours per week per credit. Psyc 294 is graded pass / fail. These credits may not be used on the plan of study for the psychology major but may be used towards the 120 credits needed to graduate.

You should contact any agency, business, school, or location that is engaged in work you would like to further investigate. This list will help you begin thinking about the possibilities and will provide you with addresses and telephone numbers of locations in Hartford , Waterbury , and Torrington
